Cheap Laptop Computer - Acer 5100 Review »

I Love My Asus EEE PC

Ever since I purchased my Asus EEE PC a few months ago, I've been pleasantly surprised by all it has to offer for such a low price.  Even though I purchased the cheapest model the 2gb Asus EEE PC, I am very happy with it.  I bought it for just over $300 after tax.

I opted for the 2gb model because I couldn't justify paying an extra $100 to get 2gb more of hard drive space.  Even though $100 more isn't bad, I can buy a 2gb SD card and place it in the SD slot on the Asus EEE PC for a lot less money.  Besides that, I don't think that the Asus EEE PC is meant to replace your home computer.  I still have a desktop with plenty of storage.

The only downfall is that unless you're familiar with Linux, which I am not, there's not much in the way of software upgrades for the Asus EEE PC.  It works well for my uses since it comes preloaded with Open Office and even has links to Google Docs and Gmail which I use.

In terms of portability, I don't think I have come across a better computer.  At only 7 inches, it can easily fit into my wife's purse and also fits into the glove box of our car, which is great for keeping it out of the site of thieves.  Every morning I take my Asus EEE with me to Starbucks to do a little writing.  The keyboard size takes a day or two to get used to but once you have the hang of it, you won't notice a difference.  Daily I receive comments about how small or cute it is and have been asked on many occasions where I got it.  Asus should be paying me commission!

One of the best features is the fact that it does not have any moving parts.  Because it uses a solid state hard drive and has no CD-Rom, I don't have to worry about knocking it around a bit.  The plastic case fits snug around all the components inside and feels very sturdy, unlike many laptops that end up cracking in the corners.

Overall the Asus EEE PC is an INCREDIBLE little computer and for the money, you can't go wrong.  It makes a great second computer or even a first computer for the occasional computer user.  For a frequent traveler that likes to keep in touch, the Asus EEE PC really can't be beat.
